Woman in hospital after car overturns
A woman was taken to hospital yesterday after smashing her car into a telegraph pole on a north-east road.
The incident happened at around 8.30am on the A97 Huntly to Aberchirder road, near Bogniebrae.
Emergency services headed to the scene five miles east of Huntly, where they discovered a car had overturned and a woman was trapped inside.
The blue Volkswagen Beetle was lying off the road and the driver could not escape.
Fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the woman, and she was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The road was closed for recovery work.
A police spokeswoman subsequently confirmed a car had left the road and overturned, but added: “We do not believe the casualty incurred any serious injuries, but she was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
“We remained at the scene until the road was reopened and made safe.” The road was closed whilst firefighters released the woman from her car, but it had reopened by 11am.
A fire service spokesman added: “The car had collided with a telegraph pole and two crews attended, one from Aberchirder and one from Huntly.
“We used stabilising equipment, hydraulic cutting equipment and a winch to release a female driver from the car, who was then transferred to hospital by the ambulance service.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 8.25am on Friday, November 17 to attend a road traffic collision on the A97 at Huntly.
“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and one female patient in her 30s was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”
“We used hydraulic cutting equipment to release a female”
