Macphee has no fears for visit of Forfar

-

Formartine United striker Archie Macphee hopes to get one over former manager Jim Weir when Forfar Athletic visit North Lodge Park on Scottish Cup duty this afternoon.

Macphee played under Loons manager Weir during his time at Elgin City but believes his side has no reason to fear its League One opponents.

Macphee, who has scored 22 goals for the Pitmedden club this term, said: “Jim Weir made me Elgin City captain and he was an excellent manager so I have huge respect for him.

“It was a great honour to be made captain but the way things turned out at the end of last season I just felt that the time was right for a change.

“Thankfully I have made a good start at Formartine.

and reach the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

“They’ll start as favourites because they are a League One side but we have players more than capable of springing a cup shock.”

Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie was in confident mood ahead of his side’s trip to face Lowland League side Spartans in Edinburgh, despite missing two strikers with Gary Harris (knee) and Graham Johnston (hamstring).

He said: “We are on a good run in the league and we’ve performed well in the Scottish Cup so far this term. We’ve done our homework and we are going there with the intention of getting the win which will take us into the fourth round with the big boys.”

A fully fit Brora Rangers squad face a 620-mile round trip to Stranraer. They stayed over in Kilmarnock last night in a bid to ensure the players were as fresh as possible for the tie.

Manager Ross Tokely said yesterday: “The commitment the lads have shown by getting half-days off their work on Friday was great.”
