Kindly builder sought to help charity shop grow

Appeal: Fundraisers needwallknockedout

A charity shop which supports breast cancer research has appealed for generous builders to help them expand their floor space and raise more money.

The family-owned Bosies on Justice Street in Aberdeen, close to the Castlegate, raises funds for the Breast Cancer Research Clinic at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as well as the hospital’s dedicated breast cancer treatment and recovery ward.

Since it started in 2010 the shop has gone from strength to strength, and shop manager Maggie Lenahan has now been given planning permission to knock down a wall and expand the charity into a neighbouring building.

However, because the charity wants to give as much cash to the cause as possible, Mrs Lenahan and shop volunteer Val Morrison – a barmaid who starred in BBC documentary The Harbour – are on the hunt for anyone kind enough to get rid of the wall for free.

Mrs Lenahan, a breast cancer survivor herself, said: “We’re looking for somebody who would be happy to help us out with this project out of the goodness of their hearts, because we want to use as little money as possible running the charity and give as much as possible to the hospital.

“What we’re short of is space.

“The people who support us are wonderful, we’ve got a whole basement full of stuff that’s been donated, but we just need that extra floor space to get it on display and sell it, so we can get even more money up to the hospital for the important breast cancer re- search they do and the care they give to breast cancer patients.

“We’ve got so, so much Christmas stock which we could just put out there if we had the floor space for it, and Christmas is a big time of year for us.

“We make a lot of money from Christmas shoppers, so the sooner we get this done, the better.

“We’ve got all the permis- sions that we need, so all we need is somebody kind enough and with the time to help us get this sorted.”
