The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire)
TONYDOCHERTY
It was a very uncharacteristic Aberdeen performance. We need to keep things in perspective as we haven’t had a lot of performances like that.
It was a bad day for us.
Motherwell changed their system to a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield shape which we didn’t anticipate.
That threw us a little bit but, once we adapted our formation, we looked to impose ourselves on the game but we just never got going.
I won’t make excuses and the players won’t make excuses for the conditions.
We should have imposed our game plan on Motherwell better. The individual performances and the collective performance should have been better.
We were punished for that as they had a striker who was on form in Louis Moult.
I thought it was a poor game but they scored the two goals. We were very disappointed with the manner we conceded the first goal.
We went in 1-0 down at the break and we made a change at the break to try to get things going but it just didn’t happen.
That isn’t like us. They coped with the conditions better than us. I didn’t think it was a great spectacle. I didn’t think Motherwell were great and they didn’t have to be.
It was an uncharacteristic performance from us, especially at home. We were looking for our players to get more control of the game and pass the ball a bit more.
But the game was dictated by the team which dealt with the poor conditions better.
The way the other results in the Scottish Premiership went is possibly a positive for us but we only focus on ourselves and it was a disappointing day.
