BlueToon shock troops delight McInally

-

Peterhead manager Jim McInally always felt his players were capable of upsetting Raith Rovers to reach the Scottish Cup fourth round.

McInally’s men asked plenty of questions of the Kirkcaldy club in the first half but they finally made their possession count after the interval.

The Blue Toon boss said: “I was a bit concerned at half-time because we had the best of the conditions and had not scored, despite playing well. We put Raith under a lot of pressure but Greg Fleming made an important for us at the start of the second half and we never looked back from that.

“We were excellent and Russell McLean and Rory McAllister were a real handful up front.

“They were strong, quick and defended from the front and generally I thought the team played with a lot of energy. Raith had key players missing and I knew we could take advantage of that, so I am delighted.”

McInally was delighted to have Jordon Brown back on the scoresheet after the midfielder’s frustrating spell on the sidelines. The Balmoor boss said “It was a great header. Jordon is in need of games and we have had to throw him on at times when he has not really been ready. It was early for him to come on in this match but he grew into it and his goal was magnificent.

“That was exactly what Jordon Brown is; a midfield player, who gets in the box and scores goals. He also had to do a bit of the dirty side and he went into a couple of hard tackles and came out of them the other side. The dirty side let us down a bit last week against Stenhousemuir in the league but it did not here.”
