Brechin City manager Darren Dods celebrated as if his side had just won the Scottish Cup itself, such was his relief at seeing his team secure a first win of the season.

After he had calmed down, Dods said: “I thought we played bet- ter going into the wind in the second half. We had tried something different in the first half and it didn’t seem to be working.

“We knew we had that pace in behind and as the game wore on more spaces appeared and Isaac Layne came on and changed the game. He could have scored three.

“We knew it was going to be difficult and that the wind was going to play a part. We also knew that McLeod is a 30-goal a season man and strikers like that are always in the right position, so we knew he was going to be a handful.

“We probably gave him too much space in the first half but I think we got closer to him and blocked him off, so he got less service in the second half.”

Paying tribute to match-winner Layne, Dods added: “Isaac came on and scored two. We know he can do that, he was brilliant for us when he was on loan two years ago, now he’s come back and he’s been in and out of the team, but he’s been showing up well in training and I hope he can progress after today’s performance.

“We’re just happy to get that win and hopefully we can use the momentum and confidence for the next few league games coming up.”
