Highland recorded another scalp in the BT National League Cup with a 46-34 victory at Whitecraigs on Saturday.
The Inverness outfit caused a shock in the opening round in August when they knocked National 1 side Aberdeen Grammar out of the competition.
The Canal Park men kept their good cup form going against the National 2 strugglers at Newton Mearns on Saturday. They were trailing 15-12 at the break but produced a superb second-half display to claim the victory.
Highland’s 2nd XV were also celebrating after a 29-27 home victory against Garioch in Caley 2 North to move up to fifth place.
In Caley 3 North, Aberdeenshire recorded a 51-19 victory against Aberdeen Wanderers 2nd XV, while the match between Peterhead and Inverness Craig Dunain was postponed with Inverness unable to fulfil the fixture.
• Star back Liam Williams could be a fitness concern for Wales ahead of next Saturday’s clash against world champions New Zealand. Williams, whose counterattacking brilliance shredded the All Blacks for an unforgettable British and Irish Lions try scored by Sean O’Brien in the first Test five months ago, went off in a dour 13-6 victory over Georgia and faces a fitness race to face the Kiwis.
“I’m not sure about Liam Williams,” said coach Warren Gatland.
