Well get right in mood for crack at Celtic

-

Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson sees no reason why his side can’t stun Celtic in Sunday’s Betfred Cup final after their confidence boosting 2-0 success against Aberdeen.

A double from Louis Moult gave Stephen Robinson’s side a welldeserved victory at Pittodrie - their second victory over the Dons this season following their quarter-final success in the Betfred Cup.

The Steelmen now face Celtic in the final of that competition at Hampden this weekend and Carson believes his side can defy the odds and defeat Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops.

He said: “I can’t believe how comfortable it was for me against Aberdeen.

“I hardly had anything to do – the lads in front of me were outstanding.

“It was just an allround perfect performance.

“I might be busier this week as Celtic are by far the best team in the league. They have great players but we will prepare just like we did against Aberdeen.

“We know if we are at it, we can go and give Celtic a game.

“We have beaten Aberdeen twice and Rangers once, so we take confidence from that. The manager asked us straight after the game at Pittodrie, ‘Does anyone not believe we can beat them?’

“No one said yes. On our day, we can win.

“We might not be the prettiest team in the league but we aren’t easy to play against.

“In fact, ask any other team in the league and they will say we are a horrible team to face.

“We are constant. We get in people’s faces and we will see how Celtic can deal with that.”

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson praised Moult for his double.

The Englishman has now scored 50 goals in 96 appearances for the Steelmen.

He said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Louis and he should be very proud of himself.

“He has worked his way back from disappointments in his career, so deserves all the plaudits he’s getting.”
