Ellis pitches in for perfect wedding

-

Turriff United groundsman Ellis Duguid is highly protective of the excellent playing surface at the Haughs, but he has given permission for a marquee to be erected on the pitch on Friday.

Mind you, it’s hardly surprising, even though United still have one home game to play, against Brora Rangers on May 5, as the marquee will host the wedding of Ellis and his wife to be, Nadine.

The retired local businessman said: “I’m getting married on the pitch at the Haughs on Friday afternoon, in a marquee.

“The idea came out of an idea from the groundstaff when we were all sitting around at the park one night, and to be honest, where better for the groundsman to get married then on the pitch I care for night and day. Nadine is delighted, as I spent so much time looking after the pitch at the Haughs anyway, no doubt I’ll be a little bit quieter that day.”

Revealing a little more about his special day, he added: “The marquee will act as the church for the day, we’ll all dine in there as well, and later on there will be a bar, and no doubt the party will go on until the wee small hours I would imagine.

“However, one thing I will guarantee is that there will definitely be no damage whatsoever to the actual playing surface itself, if there was there will only be one man fixing it, yours truly.”
