Grimshaw hails Well’s final double

-

Motherwell midfielder Liam Grimshaw claims any club in the world would be proud to reach two cup finals in a season.

Stephen Robinson’s side achieved that feat on Saturday when it beat Aberdeen 3-0 in the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-finals and now has the chance to avenge their Betfred Cup final defeat by Celtic.

It is the first time Moth- erwell have been in two cup finals in a season since 1950-51, when they beat Hibernian to claim the League Cup but missed out on a double against Celtic.

Grimshaw was delighted to give the Lanarkshire town another occasion to look forward to on May 19.

“For a club of our size and stature, to get to two cup finals in a season is superb,” the former Manchester United and Preston player said.

“For any team in any league, whether it’s Barcelona or Real Madrid, if you get to two finals it’s quite an achievement. For a team the size of Motherwell to do it then it’s brilliant.

“I’m delighted for the Motherwell fans. Quite a lot of the lads live in the Motherwell area and it’s a close-knit community and to see everyone just so happy after beating a perceived bigger club was brilliant.”

Celtic showed their strength with a 4-0 win over Rangers on Sunday to join Motherwell in the final. Rangers boss Graeme Murty bemoaned his side’s “passive” approach and claimed it did not make a tackle for the first 30 minutes.

But Motherwell are unlikely to sit off the treblechasing favourites so much after harassing Aberdeen out of their stride and causing them problems at the back by getting the ball forward to front pair Curtis Main and Ryan Bowman.
