What Ruth must do to get my vote

-

New trade deals post-Brexit with countries such as Mexico and the USA will be conducted under WTO rules, and its boss has already warned that negotiations will be difficult. Our disengagement from the EU will exacerbate the situation, as our current WTO terms are enshrined in membership of that organisation.

While agreeing the country is in “a political and economic mess”, I believe a divisive, destructive Brexit is the cause and beyond the ability of any government to deliver.

half and half between Leave and Remain. The hierarchy in both Conservative and Labour parties do not show that situation; they both appear willing to support the Brexiteers, and the above small parties cannot do much about it.

I know I will be told that this is the will of the people, but the people did not vote for economic suicide, which is very likely what a no-deal Brexit would amount to.

Mr Service says that democracy is the outcome of the referendum in which the entire nation voted on the known facts. I would say that no one in the nation could claim to know all the facts way back in June 2016 – they are only becoming evident now.

If the government does not agree to another referendum before they take us out of the EU, when the full costs of leaving become evident, then that will be a complete travesty of the term democracy. SIR, – Ruth Davidson’s book is rightly praised for honesty about her personal issues and ambitions and she is acknowledged as a potential First, if not Prime, Minister.

I’ll be first in the queue if the sequel is entitled “How I halted the SNP and Indyref2 and how I’ll finish the job with policies to win in 2020 and turn Scotland round”. Especially if chapters include “Reforming child benefits so one parent can stay at home during the early years”, “Get houses built at half the cost: reform planning and tax systems, adopting new construction methods”, “Crossparty agreement on funding old age care”, “What we can all do to reduce pressure on the NHS by eating less and exercising more”, and “Encourage your kids to behave at school, work hard and excel”, and, “I’ll do my bit by reforming the education system”.

A few words on how to develop a positive working relationship with Westminster would be welcome, too.

The Conservatives are the only party not to have been in government at Holyrood.

A radical, deliverable set of policies might get them over the line.
