Caithness confident despite selection headache

-

Tom McGee is confident Caithness can overcome selection headaches to challenge Murrayfield Wanderers tomorrow.

The Greens are without six of the starting 15 who recorded their first win of the season against Orkney a week ago and McGee has been focused on putting together a game plan to cope with the loss of players.

Roddy Gray, Kris Hamilton, John Miller, Douglas Webster, Cameron Ryder and Craig Chambers will all miss out for the game at Thurso, against a Murrayfield side yet to record a win in three games.

Head coach McGee said: “We’ve got reasonable strength in depth and I’m confident with the guys we’ve got, we’ll have strong setpieces to trouble them.

“They’ve not won yet and even with the long journey to Caithness, I’m still expecting a really tough game.

“It’s more about what we expect from ourselves, rather than Murrayfield.

“We’re missing six from the 15 (from last week) so that’ll be a challenge. It’s about how we approach the game tactically to make sure we’re in the game with a chance to win it. That’s going to be the focus for us. We’ve put a gameplan together that puts us in a position to win.”

Their far north rivals Orkney are in action at Ardrossan Accies this weekend, chasing their first win of the season. Captain Scott Rendall is confident the victory is coming and the islanders will avoid the relegation battle they found themselves in during the previous campaign.

He said: “As soon as you get the first win it gives everyone a boost and guys are bouncing at training the next week. We can really kick on from there. If that can happen this weekend with an away win, it will almost double the confidence you would get from winning at home.

“We’re definitely looking to avoid a repeat of last year, as it was a bit nervy until the last four or five games. The sooner we get wins under our belts the better. It looks encouraging and I don’t think we’ll be in that situation this year; we’ve definitely got a better squad.”
