Get geared up for autojumble bargain hunt

-

We may be nearing the end of the classic car season for another year but there are still plenty of events left in 2018’s motoring calendar – if you know where to look.

One such event is taking place this Sunday, which will see the return of the annual autojumble event at the Grampian Transport Museum.

Autojumbles are now a rather endangered species following the introduction of internet market places such as eBay but they remain prime hunting ground for motoring gems.

After a 15-year hiatus, this year’s event also sees the return of a live vehicle auction, which is set to be a big draw for crowds.

Curator Mike Ward said: “It is a real enthusiasts’ event and I defy anyone who attends not to end up buying something!

“Prices are ultra-realistic as it is on a local platform.

“Ebay and similar are fantastic for sellers, of course, but the sheer volume of buyers means that real bargains are few and far between.

“Perhaps it’s time that local specialist auctions make a return.

“We hope so, as they are effective at generating real interest in more unusual sales and, curiously, are very entertaining.

“For the autojumble we have more than 70 stalls already registered, making it one of the biggest in Scotland; and, again, a really wide range of stock will be available with new material at very sensible prices.”

Those who fancy clearing out the garage can reserve a pitch for the day to flog their wares or even enter an old vehicle for sale at the auction. The autojumble will run from 9am to 3pm this Sunday at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford.
