Price sees Broadwood as barometer of City’s progress

Elgin City manager Gavin Price reckons his side can show they mean business in League 2 this season with a victory at Clyde today.

Following a fortnight out of action, City returned in style last weekend with a fine 3-0 victory away to Berwick Rangers. Although Price was encouraged by the display, he reckons the Black and Whites will need to step it up another gear for the trip to Broadwood with Danny Lennon’s side just three points adrift of leaders Edinburgh City in third place.

Price said: “It was a good result for us at Berwick after stewing for a couple of weeks after the Stirling Albion game.

“The players responded well but I would expect a sterner test at Clyde, who are on good form.”

Price is in no doubt about who might hurt his side.

He added: “It goes without saying that David Goodwillie has been one of the prolific strikers in this league so we have to work at keeping him out.

“We are also mindful of some of the other players they have. It will be a hard game but it will allow us to see where we are. If we are wanting to do well this season, these are games we have to compete in.”

Although City were defeated 1-0 when they last travelled to face the Bully Wee in March, Elgin ended a fivematch losing streak in Cumbernauld with a 4-2 victory last October.

Price, whose only injury absentee is Stephen Bronsky (ankle), is hopeful of another good result on the road.

He added: “We won down there in one of my first games in charge and it was a good victory in coming from behind.

“We don’t have a great record down there but our away form has certainly improved so far this season and hopefully we can continue that.”
