McInally wants more after fine test of character

-

Peterhead manager Jim McInally believes his players have answered any questions about their resilience following their win at Cowdenbeath last weekend.

The Blue Toon put back-to-back defeats behind them as they came from behind twice to win 4-2 at the Blue Brazil and McInally wants to see more of the same physicality from his side this season.

McInally, whose team welcome Berwick Rangers to Balmoor today, said: “We showed our character at Cowdenbeath to come from behind twice. They thought we were physically weak but when you have guys like Mick Dunlop in your team I just can’t agree.

“We’re as strong physically as any team in this league and we can stand up to the long throws, free kicks and corners. I was pleased to see us show that side to our game at Central Park and I told the players at half-time if we got the equaliser we would win the game as Cowdenbeath had worked so hard to contain us in the first half.

“That result tells you everything about this team. People looked at the home defeats to Bohemians and Edinburgh City and questioned us but the performance against Bohemians was a massive improvement on the Edinburgh game and Bohs are a good side.

“We’ve had a physically tough few weeks and I know if we can stand up to that side of the game then we have the players who can win those sort of games for us and that will be important in this league this season.”

New loan signing from Ross County, Ryan Dow, is set to make his home debut with McInally having a full squad to choose from.
