Ban and unpaid work for drink driver

A personal trainer who got behind the wheel while more than three times the alcohol limit has been banned from the road for 20 months.

Jonathan Slowey was caught driving his black Vauxhall Meriva on Great Northern Road following an afternoon of drinking on April 15.

The 29-year-old, of Grandholm Court, had 72 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath per 100 millilitres when the legal limit is 22.

Fiscal depute Lucy Simpson yesterday told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that Slowey was observed and stopped by officers at 8.45pm.

client had been drinking in the afternoon but had stopped for a period of time before driving.

However, Sheriff Philip Mann nevertheless imposed a 20-month driving ban.

Slowey was also ordered to complete unpaid work hours for a separate offence on February 22.

At 1.55pm that day, police found Slowey to be “extremely agitated” and “under the influence of an unknown substance” on Great Northern Road.

After becoming aggressive, the personal trainer then resisted arrest.

Mr Beveridge said his client’s recollection was that he had been in a heated argument with a stranger and was upset.

“He has an underlying drink problem,” he added.

Sheriff Mann ordered Slowey, who admitted the offences, to complete 120 hours of unpaid work in addition to the order to stay off the roads.
