Office return may be temporary as home working rises

-

Returning to the office after the Covid-19 lockdown may become temporary for many people as working from home becomes the new norm, according to analysis by flexible workspace website Instant Offices.

Its conclusion is based on research showing 73% of UK workers believe flexible working is the way forward, but only 68% of firms are ready to match these expectations.

John Williams, head of marketing, Instant Offices, said:

“We’ve seen in recent years how flexible working can have a positive impact on talent acquisition and retention.

“W e ’ v e a l s o noticed a significant increase in demand for the opportunity to work from home, particularly from working parents looking to return to the workplace.

“Considering these trends, it’s reasonable to expect the right to work from home could help firms to retain more diverse talent, save on turnover costs and enjoy the benefits of a happier, more engaged workforce.”

Meanwhile, a survey by CIPD – the UK’s professional body for HR and people development – suggests home working is likely to double, compared to pre-pandemic levels once the crisis is over.
