Veteran actor Maurice Roeves has died at the age of 83, his agent has said. The star, who played Vince Diver in Tutti Frutti, the mercenary Stotz in Doctor Who and Colonel Munro in The Last Of The Mohicans, was most recently seen in the BBC drama The Nest.

A statement from his agent Lovett Logan said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm the passing of our wonderful client #MauriceRoeves.

“Maurice had a hugely successful career in both theatre and screen which spanned several decades, starting in his home country of Scotland and moving to London and the United States.

“As well as being a truly dedicated and gifted actor, he was also a real gentleman and a delight to have as a client. We will miss him greatly and our thoughts and love go out to Vanessa and his family.”

Roeves also appeared in 1976’s The Eagle Has Landed, the 1995 movie Judge Dredd, the TV adaptation of Vanity Fair and staples such as EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City.

Although born in Sunderland, from a very young age he was brought up and educated in Glasgow. After national service in the Royal Scots Greys Armoured Corps, he followed his father into mill work.

In his spare time he worked with amateur drama groups and then trained at Glasgow College of Dramatic Art.

He became assistant stage manager at Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre and within three months had landed major roles in The Merchant of Venice and The Glass Menagerie.

“A real gentleman and a delight to have as a client – we will miss him greatly”
