United add in young blood to the mix

-

Formartine United manager Paul Lawson is happy with his squad after promoting two youth prospects to the first-team pool.

Midfielder Cole Anderson, 18 and 19-year-old striker Max McGinlay will join the Pitmedden club’s firstteam squad next term.

Lawson has only been able to make one summer addition thus far with Jonny Smith arriving from Inverurie Locos.

Scott Henry, Gary McGowan, Errol Watson, Wayne Mackintosh and Jordan Leyden have all left North Lodge Park following the end of last season.

Even if he’s unable to bring in any more new faces Lawson is content with his options.

He said: “We’re happy with our squad and if the season started tomorrow I’d be more than happy with what I’ve got.

“The plan has been to have a slightly smaller squad than last season and bring in a couple of young guys in Cole and Max to try to bring them on as well.

“There are a couple of players that have moved on and we brought in Jonny Smith who’s a great signing for us.

“We’ll look at things and how they progress, I’m happy with the squad we’ve got in place, but at the same time if something comes up it may be an opportunity we can’t knock back so we might try to do more business.”

Anderson and McGinlay come from footballing stock with Cole the son of former Aberdeen captain and Formartine assistant manager Russell Anderson and Max the son of former Huntly and Cove player and Blacks and Golds manager Dave McGinlay.

Lawson added: “The chance is there for them to make an impression. “
