Kids monster burger

A home-made burger that puts the fun back into mealtimes

-

This recipe is one that definitely encourages children to play with their food as it combines spiky onion hair, mayo fangs, a crazy ketchup face and family-friendly flavours. Get your little ones to help out building their very own monster burger and add a bit of creativity to summer mealtimes.

INGREDIENTS

MAKES 4 1 red onion 200ml tomato sauce 2 packs Galloway beef burgers 1 pack plain buns/rolls 1 pack cherry tomatoes 1 romaine lettuce 4 Cheddar cheese slices 50ml mayonnaise

DIRECTIONS

Start by heating a frying pan on medium to high heat then add a little oil and gently place the burgers in the pan. Allow the burgers to cook and caramelise on one side before turning and repeating the process on the other side. Once each burger is nicely caramelised, pop them in a hot oven and allow to cook through for 5 minutes. While they’re in the oven, quarter the tomatoes, cut the onion into thin slices (not circles) and cut the lettuce into square shapes. Take the top part of the roll and along one side make 8 holes with a skewer. Take 8 pieces of thinly cut onion and slide them into the holes to make the hair. Use tomato sauce to draw your monster face on top of the bun. You can use a small amount of mayo to make teeth/fangs. Use a halved tomato to make a big red nose. Take the burgers out the oven and cover each one with a slice of cheese. Return to the oven for a minute or so to let the cheese melt. To assemble, place a slice of lettuce on the bottom bun with some tomato pieces. Place the burger on top with a little bit of tomato sauce followed by the monster face bun. • Recipe by Galloway Beef chef ambassador, Fraser Cameron.
