THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 139 cows and bulls on July 16. Beef cows (116) averaged 149p (+1.2p) and sold to 190.7p per kg for a 708kg British Blue from Bluewhin, Borrowston, and £1,530 for a 1,070kg Aberdeen-Angus from Denhead, Dunlugas.

Boning cows (11) averaged £697.

Bulls (12) averaged 131p (+7.1p) and sold to 169.2p per kg and £1,810 for a 1,070kg from Auchtygall, Peterhead.

“All classes of cows sold to similar rates to a strong ringside of buyers.”

Under 30 Month - Prime bullocks (21) averaged 197.6p and sold to 235p per kg for a 535kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessl­e, and purchased by W & J Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, Grange, and £1,537.80 for a 660kg Limousin from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt, and purchased by Backmuir Livestock, Keith.

Prime heifers (31) averaged 216.3p (-1.6p) and sold to 235p per kg for a 490kg Limousin from Bendauch, Kinellar, and for a 535kg Limousin from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall, and both purchased by Backmuir Livestock, and £1,461.60 for a 720kg Limousin from Hillocks, Whiterashe­s, and purchased by W & J Cameron.

Young bulls (five) averaged 151.4p (+0.1p) and sold to 169p per kg for a 725kg Limousin from Hillocks,and £1,312.25 for a 905kg Simmental from Connachie, Kellas. 30 to 48 Month - Bullocks (four) averaged 165.5p and sold to 209p per kg and £1,452.55 for a 695kg Salers from Knockleith, Auchterles­s.

Heifers (one) sold to 151p per kg and £1,064.55 for a 705kg Simmental from Newton of Deershaw, Alvah.

“All classes sold to sellers advantage, with the prime sale dominated by heavy out of spec cattle. Lighter weight sold at a premium.”

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,843 prime sheep and feeding ewes and rams on July 16.

New season lambs (1,075) averaged 210.9p (-10.1p) per kg and sold to 250p (twice) for 40kg and 42kg Beltex from North Lurg, Midmar, and £115 twice for 51kg Continenta­ls from Bogiefeula­ch, Tornaveen, and 53kg Texel crosses from Balcraig, Kintore.

New season lamb SQQ up to 45.5kg (807) averaged 213.7p (-6.6p) per kg.

Old season lambs (62) sold to 171.4p for 49kg Suffolk crosses from Norville, Norby and £89.50 for 80kg Texels from Balcraig. Feeding ewes and rams (706) sold to £139.50 for Texel ewes from Nordheim, Kirkwall.

“A large entry of prime lambs followed the national trend and eased slightly. There were 114 lambs at £100 or more. The overall average for lambs is still 35p per kg up on the year. Ewes were keenly bid for at similar rates. Top ewes were scarce this week.”

Bullocks (257) averaged 215.63p and sold to 255.30p per kg for a 380kg Limousin cross from Gateside, and to £1,370 for a 599kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Towncroft. Dairy bullocks (35) averaged 168.46p and sold to 179.10p per kg for a 363kg Holstein Friesian cross from Balgowan, and to £925 for a 588kg Ayrshire cross from Blackbog. Heifers (144) averaged 207.16p and sold to 241.30p per kg for a 315kg Limousin cross from Blairmullo­ch, and to £1,215 for a 574kg and 604kg Aberdeen-Angus cross and Charolais cross from Bougang & Gatehead. Beef cows and bulls (108) averaged 142.85p and sold to 200.40p per kg for a Simmental cross from Blackburn, and to £1,710 for a Charolais from Balthayock.

Dairy cows (22) averaged 116.84p and sold to 133.40p per kg for a Montbeliar­de cross from Meikle Camoquhill, and to £995 for a Montbeliar­de cross from the same home. Out of spec cattle (30) averaged 172.70p and sold to 185.70p per kg for an AberdeenAn­gus cross from Silver Rigg, and to £1,470 for a Charolais cross from Newpark.

STIRLING, United Auctions sold 5,570 prime sheep on July 16.

New season lambs (3,148) averaged 214.89p per kg and 208 prime hoggs averaged 153.45p per kg.
