Despite what celebrities and social media images would have you believe, it is possible to create a gorgeous nursery for your new arrival without breaking the bank
With a predicted baby boom following lockdown, this could be the time to start planning a nursery. Putting together your baby’s bedroom can be a lovely experience, where you make sure every detail is perfect.
But it can also be expensive. With celebrities boasting luxury nursery pictures on social media, it can be easy to get carried away.
You can create a lovely nursery on a budget though.
Firstly, work with the space you have.
You don’t need a theme, unless of course you’d like one.
You’re going to be spending a lot of time in this room come the small hours, so comfort is key.
The vintage rocking chair may look cute, but it will also cripple your back.
And the expensive changing table may not get all that much use, as you opt for a more practical changing mat which can be used around the house.
It can be wise to create a room which will grow with your little one.
That might mean investing in a cot which can be turned into a toddler bed when the time comes.
Consider buying your cot, usually the biggest expense, second-hand.
Always make sure to buy a new mattress however.
Think about what you want to use the room for.
Is it just for sleeping, or will it become a space where your little one can play?
Storage baskets will help limit mess, and it’s never too early to create a reading corner.
Look for items on local selling sites, and you may even find that your own parents have kept a few mementos from your childhood bedroom.
You don’t need to break the bank to create something beautiful. Happy bargain hunting.
