Coetzer defiant as side chokes on its elevenses

Cricket: McLaren sends Aberdeen team to defeat number 11

-

Stoneywood-Dyce captain Shaun Coetzer insisted his team will not give up their struggle against relegation from the Eastern Premiership, in spite of another morale-busting defeat, their 11th on the trot.

Kevin McLaren emerged as the destroyer-in-chief at Peoples Park, his 86 propelling Heriot's to 256 for six in only 28 overs.

Professional Breyden Stepien (68) made the Edinburgh outfit briefly toil for a 91-run success but the depth of support was just not there for the home team.

Coetzer said: “We have to believe we can make a change and win a game, otherwise there is no point in playing.

“We understand it has been the consistency of our performance throughout games which has cost us.

“We have generally shown through about 20 or 30 overs each game that we can compete but then let things slip out of our hands by either missing a couple of half-chances or making bad decisions through shot selection.”
