Show carcase contest winners

Beef and sheep farmers from the north-east were commended for their quality of stock at the recent Banchory Show carcase competitio­n.

The fixture, which saw beasts judged live at the show and then following slaughter, attracted entries from across the region.

In the lambs section, first prize both on hoof and on the hook went to Hugh Gordon, of Clochnahil­l, Stonehaven.

His two lambs killed out at grades U2 and U3L.

Mr Gordon then went on to lift the champion title on the hoof in the cattle section.

He took the live prize with a British Blue cross bullock. Reserve on the hoof went to a Limousin cross heifer from Calum Keir, Cairncoull­ie, Glenkindie, Alford.

The top title in the “on the hook” section for cattle went to a British Blue cross heifer from John Emslie, Grains of Fetteresso, Stonehaven. His beast killed out at -U4L, weighing 345kg.

Reserve “on the hook” in the cattle section went to a Limousin cross bullock from David Buchan, Auchtydore Farms, Easterton of Lenabo, Mintlaw. His entry killed out at -U4L, weighing 377.5kg.

On hoof: 1 Hugh Gordon, Clochnahil­l, Stonehaven; 2 Grant Dinnie, Bridgeton Farm, Muir of Fowlis, Alford; 3 Hugh Gordon.

On hook: 1 Hugh Gordon; 2 Grant Dinnie; 3 Hugh Gordon. Carcase cattle: On hoof bullock: 1 Hugh Gordon; 2 John Emslie, Grains of Fetteresso, Stonehaven; 3 Eric Buchan, Glenisla, Torphins.
