Coull calls it quits at Locos

- BY ANDY SKINNER

Inverurie Locos co-manager Kenny Coull has stepped down from his position, leaving Scott Buchan in sole charge of the Garioch outfit.

Coull and Buchan succeeded Dave Cormie as co-managers in 2010, having both spent several years at Harlaw Park as players.

Attacker Coull made his debut for Inverurie as a 17year-old during the club’s days in the junior ranks before leaving to join Cove Rangers.

After returning to Locos in 2003, Coull left once again to join Formartine United in 2009 prior to his return for a third spell at Inverurie six years ago.

Coull reached three cup finals during his managerial stint, triumphing at the third attempt in 2014 when he and Buchan lifted the Aberdeenshire Shield with a 5-0 win against Turriff United at Christie Park, having previously been defeated in the finals of the Highland League Cup and Aberdeenshire Cup.

Following a poor start to the new season however, in which Locos have yet to register a victory, 41-yearold Coull has opted to step aside, with the club now seeking a fresh coach to assist Buchan. Chairman Eddie Innes said: “It’s a disappointing day – we certainly did not want to be announcing Kenny’s departure. I just think Kenny feels things haven’t been going as well as they have been, so he’s decided to sacrifice his position to let someone else come in.

“I will meet with the vicechairman Mike Macaulay as well as Scott today to talk through where we go.”
