Premiership: Dons goalkeeper believes his team is capable of seeing off Celtic
Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis believes the Dons can defeat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season.
The former Cardiff City and Norwich goalkeeper has impressed since moving to Pittodrie, conceding once in the first three matches of the new league season.
Lewis is preparing for the toughest assignment of the campaign when his team travels to Parkhead on Saturday to face last season’s champions.
Derek McInnes’ side finished 15 points behind Celtic last term but Lewis thinks it will be a closer contest this time around and when asked if Aberdeen can win the league this year, Lewis replied: “I don’t see any reason why not. We will try to do that and we weren’t a million miles away from doing it last season.
“I know other teams have strengthened but I feel as though we have strengthened as well. The next few months will give us an answer.”
Lewis is well aware of the threat posed by a Celtic team managed by Brendan Rodgers having come up against Swansea during Rodgers’ tenure when he was a Peterborough United player.
He said: “They were always a good team and a difficult team to beat in the Championship. There are not a lot of teams in that division which play total football but his side certainly did that. He will try to get his Celtic side playing in that manner as well.
“I’ve played against Scott Sinclair a couple of times and I was at Fulham with Moussa Dembele last season.
“Everyone’s got a decent knowledge of what they can do and we will go through their strengths and weaknesses like we do with every team.
“Dembele is only a youngster but he is exceptionally strong for his age and he scored a few goals
