Safety of plant under scrutiny
SIR, – So after months of telling us all that the proposed waste incinerator located in a residential area and a mere 200 yards from a primary school are totally and utterly safe and cause no public health problems, a spokesman from Aberdeen City Council has finally admitted that the risk from this proposed plant are negligible.
May I ask the spokesman from the council, in view of Professor Vyvyan Howard’s studies into these plants in which he quite clearly states that there are a number of problematic areas which affect all incinerators – the main one being the small particles which can find their way into people’s lungs and eventually into the bloodstream, to produce his findings on the type of incinerators which, according to him, are “negligible”?
What prominent professor on public health did the council employ to produce a report that the risks are negligible? And why are 800 people taking a group action against a similar plant in Runcorn? Answers, please, Aberdeen City Council – sooner rather than later. James Noel, Leggart Terrace,
Aberdeen.
