Knight’s cup of cheers tribute after tears for wife’s sad loss

“Simon took the corner and seemed to aim the ball straight towards me. I had got into the box and when I got a header to the ball it got past Darren McConnachie into the net.

“If I had opened my eyes I would have known what I had done, but I had them firmly shut when I made contact with the ball.

“I did score once when I was a youngster the day I played up front for Elgin City under-18s, but Saturday’s was my first goal in senior football. The fact it earned us a replay against our rivals made it even more special.”

Knight had even more reason to celebrate his goal 24 hours later, and added: “It was our son William’s first birthday on Sunday.

“Everyone at his party was talking about my goal and it made his party even more memorable.”
