Real value of investment

-

SIR, – If the figures are correct, and hundreds of jobs and £111million worth of investment has been generated by Highlands and Islands Enterprise for £800,000 on travel over two years, then I would say this is money well spent.

Yes, technology can be used to liaise with potential investors, but sometimes it is better to show your face and press the flesh because we are social beings and many people still place great value in seeing a real live person, rather than a disembodied voice or image.

The money spent also needs to be offset against the vast amount spent on coping with the effects of lack of investment and jobs.
