Nato still a vital force in crisis

The

timing was just poetic. As Nato naval vessels held their summer of “fun” – their words – off our coast as part of Operation Joint Warrior, an archaic but still effective Russian aircraft carrier belched its way through their midst and on towards Syria.

The crisis there is an utter shambles and a dreadful stain on politicians of both west and east, as well as the terrible consequences for refugeesandthe appalling response bysometo those most vulnerable seeking refuge.

But, despite Donald Trump’s assertions over his call for it to pay its way, it shows the value of Nato and the need for it to continue to be ultra vigilant in these most difficult times. Not all threats are cyber these days.
