Travel ban will take centre stage

-

Amid the tears and tributes, President Donald Trump’s failed travel ban will likely be a hot topic at the Oscars tomorrow.

Although it was blocked by the courts, a revamped refugee and immigration executive order will be released by the White House next week.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, whose film The Salesman is up for best foreign language film, will not attend the ceremony and neither will the film’s star Taraneh Alidoosti.

At the Golden Globes, Meryl Streep blasted Mr Trump without naming him.

Referring to him mocking a New York Times journalist who has a congenital joint condition, she said: “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life”
