Drivers are warned of road closures due to bypass work

AWPR: Motorists urged to plan their journeys because of new routes

- BY CHRIS JAFFRAY

A series of north-east roads will be closed over the next few weeks to allow vital work on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) to take place.

During this time diversions will be put in place and motorists are being encouraged to plan their journeys to take the new routes into account.

A total of nine, 19-metre high beams will be installed on the C55C Pitmedden Road at Dyce for the start of the construction of the new Pitmedden Road Bridge.

As a result the road will be closed several times over the next few weeks.

The first closure will run from 8pm this evening until 6am the following day.

The road will be closed again at 8pm tomorrow until 6am the following Monday and this will be repeated at the same times over the next two weekends.

Additional work will take place at Milltimber Brae where the existing road will be tied into the new route which is being built.

To allow this to take place the surrounding parts of both the A93 Aberdeen to Braemar road and the B979 Netherley to Maryculter road will both be closed from 8pm tomorrow until 6am on Monday.

During this time motorists will still be able to drive to businesses and homes in the affected area – but only by travelling from the west of the site.

Buses and emergency services will still be able to use the road alongside pedestrians.

The A999 Aberdeen Tarves road will also be closed over the next two weekends to allow the contractor to undertake resurfacing work.

The closure will take place from the junction with Shielhill Road all the way to Potterton in the south of the city from 8pm tomorrow until 6am on Monday and at the same times next week.

A Transport Scotland spokeswoman urged people to plan journeys in advance.

She said: “We understand the importance of these roads to local communities and consequently, the contractor has planned the timing of these closures to minimise the impact they may have on road users.

“However, we would like to encourage those drivers who would consider using these roads to plan their journeys in advance.

“We would also encourage road users to allow additional travelling time so that they can reach their destination safely and on time.”

She added: “We thank road users in advance for their patience during this period."
