End of road for bus service

-

A bus service from Aberdeen city centre to the airport has been cancelled, because of the oil industry downturn.

That’s according to bus company First Aberdeen which has announced a raft of changes to services in the city to come into force on April 2.

The current number 27 bus leaves from Guild Street every half-hour in the morning from 5.50am to 7.55am, with another two services at 3.55pm and 5.20pm. It goes via Kirkhill Industrial Estate.

There are two return services in the morning and four in the afternoon.

A new 117 service is being introduced to partially replace the number 27, but it will operate less frequently. It will run from the city centre to Kirkhill Industrial Estate via Denburn Road, Hilton, Auchmill Road,

Stoneywood, Wellheads Drive and International Avenue.

A statement from First Aberdeen said: “Regrettably, this service will be withdrawn due to low passenger numbers.

“Demand for services towards Kirkhill Industrial Estate has reduced significantly as a result of the oil downturn.”

Other changes are also being implemented to take into account the closure of Broad Street and to “improve frequencies”.

Service 11 for Woodend, service 19 for Culter, service 20 for Hillhead and service 25 for Ferryhill will all be rerouted to avoid Broad Street.

There will also be timetable changes to service 13 between Scatterburn and Seaton Golf Links, but its frequency will be unchanged.

The amendments are being introduced after a period of consultation.
