Discuss proposal, don’t criticise

-

SIR, – Initially I was going to ignore the letter about the Portgordon Ice House, pictured (Letters, March 6), sent in about me and my fellow Lennox Community Council members, by Roderick McKay from Forres. On reflection I think the detraction is unfair to my fellow members who give their time so willing and do their best to do a good job.

I have never hidden my personal enthusiasm about any proposed development that would enhance the area and bring a bit of prosperity, whilst providing facilities for the tourist on whom we rely on so heavily. My fellow community members lent their support only when asked to do so by Portgordon villagers, not by me.

I personally like the design of the cafe as is my entitlement, just as Mr McKay is at liberty to dislike it. As he lives 25 miles away from Portgordon he can choose never to set eyes on it if he finds it so distasteful. The lady building the cafe, along with her architect, obviously likes the design. I believe she lives in Forres so Mr McKay could maybe pop round and discuss it with her rather than fruitlessly criticising it in the press.

Maureen Burrows, Garden Lane, Portgordon
