Drivers warned of A90 detours

-

The overnight closure of a section of the A90 will force north-east motorists to make a significant detour for the next three weekends.

The section between the Murcar roundabout and the B977 at Balmedie will be shut in both directions between 8pm and 6am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April 28-30, May 5-7 and May 12-14.

The closures are to allow 12 beams and 44 bridge parapet units to be delivered for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and Balmedie-to-Tipperty project.

Between 6am and 8pm on the scheduled weekends, a contraflow system will be in place on the southbound carriageway. The closure will also be in place on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, between 8pm and 6am but no contraflow operation is planned.

“Road users should plan their journeys in advance”

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “Road users who need to travel through or near this area during these weekends should plan their journeys in advance, so they can reach their destination safely and on time.”

Drivers heading north will be diverted from the Murcar roundabout onto the B999 Aberdeen to Tarves road.

They will then have to turn right on to the B977 Dyce to Balmedie road, before rejoining the northbound A90. The reverse journey applies to those heading south.

Drivers of HGVs going north will also be diverted on to the B999 Aberdeen to Tarves road until they reach the B9000 Newburgh to Pitmedden road.

They will then have to turn right and follow the B9000 to the A90. The reverse journey again applies to those travelling south.
