Sports club is charity 10,000

-

A north-east sports club has become the 10,000th registered charity in Scotland.

Aboyne Canoe Club offers members and other community groups the chance to kayak or canoe on the various bodies of water in Aberdeenshire and beyond.

With almost 200 members, the club decided to register as a charity in order to help funding applications. It needs to raise £100,000 to build a purpose built canoe and kayak storage facility for the club and the wider community.

A local benefactor has donated the lease for the site, but the club is struggling to find seed funding to support a grant bid.

A club spokesman said: “Aboyne Canoe Club is an inclusive club open and welcoming to all. As well as providing activities for members the club provides sessions for a wide range of local groups and 30 children use the club for D of E training.”
