Use old north dump site for leisure

-

SIR, –I find it extraordinary that Highland Council is talking about spending £10million on remedial work (Press and Journal, June 16) to make an old landfill site available for commercial space.

At 44 acres, that is £227,000 per acre. The existing city centre is underused and under-funded. Any new commercial space created outside the central area would further damage its prospects. It would be better, and cheaper, to open up the site for leisure activities such as cycling, dog walking and enjoying views out to the Moray Firth.

Add in a cafe, car parking and perhaps an outdoor exercise area to maximise footfall.
