State of our schools
It is probably not unusual for mushrooms to be found growing in a school as part of controlled scientific or agricultural projects, but not of their own volition due to severe damp in classrooms and gyms.
It happened at Fortrose Academy in the Highlands, according to information obtained under Freedom of Information legislation.
The damp issue, which could have potential underlying health threats for staff and pupils with certain allergies, has been addressed, but it again exposes financial problems affecting our schools. Fortrose Academy, which is not alone in this respect, still has ongoing issues to this day – with female pupils reportedly refusing to use showers due to their poor state.
