-

SIR, – Predictions are that inflation could reach 3% and above later this year while rank and file pay in the public sector remains capped at 1%.

Out there on the high street it is also becoming obvious that retailers are struggling to keep their businesses afloat.

Though still reeling from its general election results, it may just be possible for the SNP government to focus on the day job and remember its manifesto promise to lift the level at which low-income Scots begin paying tax to £12,750 by the end of 202122.

After seven years of austerity it’s a fair guess that JAM (just about managing) numbers going to food banks are increasing dramatically.
