Revamp: Queen’s new castle doors cost £1.2million
Replacement doors for the Orangery at Windsor Castle cost £1.2million, royal accounts showed.
The facelift was ordered after the previous doors on the East Terrace at the Queen’s much loved Berkshire residence suffered severe wood rot and decay.
A royal source said the work involved around 20 large doors, which spanned most of one side of the terrace’s east facade.
“It’s probably about 100 yards of door, and heavy, heavy door – bespoke,” the source said.
