Beating Brora would be statement of title intent from Turriff

-

Turriff United manager Ross Jack believes today’s home game against Brora Rangers will be a big test of his side’s Highland League title credentials.

United have recovered from a sluggish start to the season with two wins after two defeats. They sit 10th in the table but can move level with their fifth-placed rivals with victory at the Haughs.

Jack said: “Brora are one of the top teams in the league. They were champions for two years in a row and were just beaten by Cove last season.

“It will be a tough game but we have to try towin. If we want to be challenging at the top we need to be winning games like these.”

Elsewhere, Formartine United bid to build on their 6-1 win at Strathspey Thistle when they host Fort William. Midfielder Stuart Anderson, who made his return to the first team after injury at Sea field Park, said :“We believe we’re capable of winning the league. We’ve had disappointments but it happens. It was good to get back to winning ways on Saturday.”

New signing Chris Moir will miss Nairn’s trip to Kynoch Park to play Keith, while Willie Barron is also absent. The Maroons will look to attacker Luke Barbour to continue his fine start to the season with the forward having scored four goals so far.

Deveronvale, who travel to take on Rothes today, yesterday signed former Aberdeen FC youth player Lewis Dunbar from Cove Rangers.
