Sister Sledge bring 1970s to 2016 as Bella headliner

- BY JAMIE MCKENZIE

The Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival prides itself on being “family-friendly” – and that image will only be enhanced by the first headliner at the 2017 event.

It was announced yesterday that Sister Sledge will top the bill on the festival’s main stage on the Thursday night.

And the Philadelphiabased trio are certain to lead thousands of revellers on a sing-a-long rendition of their hit track “We are Family”.

Belladrum, which takes place near Beauly, will next year run from Thursday, August 3, until Saturday, August 5.

Tickets go on sale today for the 14th staging of the festival.

Belladrum sold out in record time again in 2016 for the eighth year in a row so fans have been urged to buy early to avoid disappointment.

The American trio – who started out as a quartet – have charted in the UK since 1975 with hits which also include He’s The Greatest Dancer, and Frankie.

Festival promoter Joe

“Generations of Bella fans singing along to We Are Family”

Gibbs said: “What could be better than generations of Bella fans singing along to ‘We Are Family’ on the opening night of the event? It will be one of those Bella moments to savour”. Music fans can purchase Belladrum tickets online from 10am today.

Three-day weekend tickets will include Sister Sledge and a programme of artists on the main stage on the Thursday night, but two-day weekend tickets will allow access to the rest of the festival, excluding the main stage, from Thursday night onwards.

Thursday car parks and camping areas will be open from 8am again and arenas will open from 1pm.
