Man banned after theft

A man who stole a sandwich from a shop has been banned from Caithness for a year.

Samuel Hewitt, 30, was seen by an employee acting suspiciously at the Co- op store in Wick, on July 23, and then observed on CCTV removing the sandwich from a display unit.

Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday that he was followed from the shop and requested to stop, but ran away, before being traced laterby police

Hewitt, of Mansfield Estate, in Tain, admitted the thef t and was banned from Caithness for the duration of the good behaviour bond.

He was said to have been visiting friends in the area at the time and had run out of money and had nothing to eat.
