Yvette Cooper calls for

-

Yvette Cooper has warned Labour it risks failing to help “desperate” refugees if it adopts a “tin ear” to resolving the country’s immigration concerns.

The former minister, who is chairing Labour’s refugee task force, urged the party not to be “paralysed” through fear of the “difficult politics of immigration”.

She added such an approach would knock public confidence in their arguments for helping refugees.

Ms Cooper’s message is likely to be viewed as a coded warning to leader Jeremy Corbyn, who has been criticised from within his own party for suggesting there should be no efforts to curb the number of people coming to the UK.
