Cliff in ‘duet’ with Elvis on 101st album

Music: Record follows CPS review

Sir Cliff Richard has announced his 101st album – featuring a “duet” with Elvis Presley.

The voices of the veteran singer, 75, and the “king of rock ‘n’ roll” can both be heard on Blue Suede Shoes, one of 15 tracks on the album, due out in November. News of the album, “Just ... Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll”, comes days after a review concluded that the CPS was correct not to prosecute Sir Cliff over historical sex abuse allegations.

The singer, who has always maintained his innocence, has said that he hopes the review “brings this matter to a close”.

Just ... Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll features Sir Cliff’s renditions of songs such as Roll Over Beethoven, Great Balls Of Fire and Sweet Little Sixteen, as well as a new track, It’s Better To Dream and his debut single Move It. The tracks were originally recorded by the singer’s “heroes” such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke and John Lee Hooker. The album, recorded in the Blackbird studio in Nashville, Tennessee, also achieves a long- held dream of the star’s by featuring a “duet” with Elvis.

Blue Suede Shoes was written and first recorded by Carl Perkins but famously sung by Elvis.

Sir Cliff said that his new album referenced a more “innocent time”.

“Not only do I find it hard to believe that my career has spanned this length of time, but also that I still get the chance to do the thing I love best, and that is to get into a studio,” he said.

“My new CD is another dip into an incredible period of our musical history. A happy, creative, and in many ways an innocent time. I will always love this music, but more importantly I hope you do too.”

Sir Cliff released his debut single Move It in 1958. His last studio album, The Fabulous Rock ‘ n’ Roll Songbook, came out in 2013.
