‘Relentless march’ of wind turbines

-

SIR, – I feel I need to respond to the letter from Jenny and Brian Goodall (P&J, September 24), regarding their trip round Loch Ness and the relative lack of unsightly wind turbine “monsters”. I really do feel they have missed the point here. What they witnessed was perhaps 10% or less of what we can expect to see in the coming years, without anti-windfarm pressure groups at least trying to stop the relentless march of the turbines.

Planning permission throughout Scotland has already been granted for many wind power stations that have yet to be constructed and numerous others are in the pipeline.

Sadly, the wind industry tends to rely on public apathy to push things through planning. Thank goodness there are those who refuse to let this happen without a fight.

I can assure the Goodalls and others like them, that there are a huge number of people who now wish that they had at least commented on prospective turbine plans, rather than doing nothing and waking up one day to find a monster in their back or front garden. I suggest that a similar journey round Loch Ness or any other part of the Highlands or Moray is undertaken in, say, five years time. Let's see what conclusions are drawn then.
