It’s Jaxx high for Groove Cairngorm

- BY JAMIE MCKENZIE

Basement Jaxx will headline next year’s Groove Cairngorm music festival.

Thousands are expected to descend on Aviemore for the second year running for a fun-filled weekend of snowsports and music following the success of this year’s inaugural event.

The apres-ski music event will take place at Badaguish Outdoor Centre, in the heart of Glenmore forest, on February 24 and 25 next year.

Next year, Brit and Grammy-winning maestros of global dancetronica Basement Jaxx will top the bill.

Other big acts announced in the initial lineup include Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club, house duo Blonde and a DJ set from Mike Skinner of The Streets.

Event organiser Dougie Brown said: “We are delighted to be bringing another incredible line-up of artists to our very own snowsports festival right here in the UK. After the huge success of our first outing last year we can’t wait to be partying up and down the mountain again next February.”

Ross Coulter, spokesman for CairnGorm Mountain, said: “Having already had our first dusting of snow on the tops of the Cairngorms, we are super excited to be able to announce such as great line-up for next year’s festival. The event was a big hit last year and we are looking forward to building on this by making it even bigger and better.”

The weekend will also be filled with performances from acts including The 2 Bears, Horsemeat Disco, emerging Highland-based producer Mark Mackenzie and young traditional Scottish act Ho-Ro.

Tickets are now on sale at £140 for a three-day weekend of mountain snowsports and apres-ski performances, £115 for just Friday and Saturday, £65 for the two-day apresski entertainment only or £35 for one day apres-ski.

Free shuttle buses will be running between Aviemore, Cairngorm mountain and Badaguish throughout the weekend to all ticket holders.

Return buses will also operate between Inverness and the festival.
