Reality check for council spending
SIR, – I am incensed at the way Aberdeenshire Council are so profligate in their spending plans.
I totally agree with Ellis Thorpe (Letters, October 19) that a cost and benefit analysis is essential to justify the benefit to taxpayers of moving headquarters from Woodhill House.
I also wonder why Inverurie seems to be the only option considered for its replacement? I note in today’s press that councillor Gillian Owen is suggesting that a site in Ellon may be more suitable.
I also find it hard to believe that the council should now be embarking on another escapade to spend a small fortune on a major makeover for Aden Country Park.
Having completed the regeneration of Haddo Country Park, where huge sums were wasted on consultants’ fees and major inefficiencies in the implementation of many aspects of the scheme, they are now hell-bent on a similar project for Aden.
This is nothing short of a scandal when so many areas are crying out for investment and when the country as a whole is in deep financial trouble.
The council is in need of a huge reality check.
