Nadal ends season due to wrist injury

-

Rafael Nadal has brought an early end to his tennis season in order to fully recover from a wrist injury.

The Spaniard, 30, was sidelined for more than two months in the summer and admitted when he returned at the Rio Olympics that he was still suffering pain.

Nadal lost the bronze medal play-off in Rio in singles and won gold in doubles alongside Marc Lopez but has struggled since and was beaten in his first match at the Shanghai Masters last week by Viktor Troicki.

Nadal said in a statement: “I am very saddened for not being able to play.

“Now it is time to rest and start preparing intensively (for) the 2017 season.”
