Tourism: CalMac reveals film to promote area

-

A new marketing campaign is showing the west coast in a new light with projections onto the landscape.

The film, promoting CalMac ferries, was revealed yesterday at the Royal National Mod.

The ferry operator is the main sponsor of the festival.

The film was made in collaboration with the band Skipinnish which supplied a rousing soundtrack to the three-and-half minute clip.

The video incorporates imagery from the 1944 David MacBrayne film Islands of Youth and new footage prepared by CalMac projected onto almost 30 locations along the west coast using highpowered projectors.

Sites featured include Ardnamurchan Lighthouse with a Highland dancer, Dunvegan Castle and Oban harbour.

CalMac managing director Martin Dorchester said: “We are a modern progressive company but we are also proud of our heritage and this film combines old and new seamlessly as we look ahead with great pride to the future.”

Angus Macphail from Skipinnish added: “Skipinnish have so many good memories of CalMac journeys over the years and the feeling of getting on a ferry still makes me excited.

“I hope our positive feelings towards the ferries, the shore staff and the crew come across in the song.”
